Third Thursday Threads: Warm Weather White

I woke up this morning to pouring rain! I hate driving in the rain, but I am oh so grateful I got the control arms fixed in my car recently. I felt much more comfortable driving to work in rain this morning.

My outfit helped to brighten the morning a little bit since it was so dreary outside. I do not like getting out of bed when it is gray, dark and wet outside, but knowing I was putting on this bright skirt helped a bit. When Briana announced the May Third Thursday Threads would be warm weather whites, I was a still stumped at first. I do not have a whole lot of white in my wardrobe, but then I thought of this white top I snagged at a Kohl’s sale. It was part of the LC Lauren Conrad Runway collection and I instantly fell in love with it.

It’s the perfect versatile top for summer. I can wear it with skinnies and heels for a night out, with  my new red shorts for a casual look or with this bright colorful skirt for work. I love all the detail on this shirt. The sleeves have a fun border and the insets down both sides of the shirt add a fun touch.

Loving the little details.

I also wore my white heels today. I love slingbacks because they are so easy to slip on in the morning and these are the perfect height for work.

Mixing It Up With SHOES!

I have come to realize that I have a lot of neutrals in my closet. I tend to wear a lot of black and gray. I am working on getting more colorful clothing especially as the warmer months are here. However, when I wear some of my boring outfits, I like to add some fun to the outfit with my shoes (I am my mother’s daughter after all).

I’ve been wearing a lot of dresses recently. They are super comfy for the heat in Texas. This black dress is one of my favorites. The sleeves are light and airy and the skirt is long enough to be professional without being too long for my short legs.

While the skirt does have a floral pattern it is hard to see with the overlay and lining both being black. So, added a little fun with these leopard heels. These are actually hand me downs from my mom. My mom and I, as well as both my sisters, wear the same shoe size. I love the leopard print and the heel height is great for me.

I love my gray Old Navy Pixie Chinos. They fit me so well and can be worn to work when I’m not feeling like shaving. I found this top last year on the Target clearance rack. I got it home before I realized that it is actually a swimsuit cover-up. I didn’t really care. I love to wear it with these pants or skinny jeans.

This outfit is a little more casual than the dress so I decided to go with flats. I love these stripped flats from Target. They added a little pattern to the outfit and the red stripe on the back was a fun pop of color. These are super comfy to wear especially if you are walking a lot. They were a little tight before I got them really broken in.

I decided to link-up with Lauren at Fizz & Frosting for today!

What are some of your favorite ways to mix up an outfit?

H54F: May 13, 2016

It’s finally Friday! This week seems to have really dragged on. Friday does mean it is H54F time with Tif, Della & Katie!

My week has been busy, but not too interesting really and I failed at taking pictures this week! I was in a bit of a slump yesterday because the Stars lost Game 7 and had their season end on Wednesday. L

  1. Saturday, I got some time with my older sister before we went to celebrate my Dad’s birthday. I really enjoy the time I get to spend with her, and I introduced her to one of my guilty pleasures, Reign. That night we headed out to Snuffer’s for my Dad’s birthday dinner. I used it as my cheat day for sure because hello cheese fries! Then we stood in line for an hour to see the new Captain America movie! I loved it and definitely recommend it. I love how Marvel is able to make these intense action movies, but still have a lot of comedy in there.
  2. Sunday was Mothers’ Day of course. We had planned on taking my mom to White Rock Lake for a picnic, but the weather had other ideas. It started raining as soon as we left church, so we just ate our peach and chicken salad sandwiches at my Mom’s house. We did take her to get frozen custard as a treat. There is an Andy’s that opened nearby, but it was packed so we went to another place down the street.
  3. It has been so rainy! Tuesday, we went to a minor baseball game. We didn’t even get half way through the game before it started to rain. Everyone just ended up coming back to my place when the rain started and hung out there. Mouse was not a fan of so many people in the apartment.bowl
  4. Wednesday I had an impromptu lunch date with my dad. He took me to Genghis Grill which is actually pretty easy on WW. I loaded up my bowl with veggies and some chicken. I asked for the tortillas as my side because they come on the side and I don’t have to eat them! Of course food is the only thing I took a picture of this week.
  5. Yesterday, I felt like I was really adulating! I went to an IREM luncheon that work paid for. It was really the first time that I really had a chance to network with other people in my industry. Plus, it was a Maggiano’s which is delicious!

I know nothing all that interesting going on in my life right now. That’s okay with me because in a week and a half my best friend is flying in and we will have plenty of excitement and fun.

Look for a couple fashion posts next week. I’m working on one about using shoes to make your outfit pop and of course Third Thursday Threads with Work Clothes, I Suppose! I’m thinking my summery white top with my coral skirt for work that day!

H54F: Shopping and Animals

It has been a really long week this week. Nothing huge really happened, but it has been long. I’m excited for a fun weekend though. I get to hang with my older sister tomorrow before we head out to celebrate my dad’s birthday with dinner and a movie. I’m also excited for the Mothers’ Day picnic we have planned for my mom.

Here is my High Five for Friday recap of the week.

Shorts: Gap through Thred Up (similar)/ Top: Target through ThredUp (similar
  1. I got my order from ThredUp that I mentioned in this post. I absolutely love the red shorts I got! I have been wanting a pair of colored shorts for a while. I can’t wait to wear them this weekend! I thought the teal shirt was a fun color as well. I got to wear to work today with my jeans. Love Jean Fridays at the office.

  2. This month I decided to stay away from buying more clothes. Since I am working on losing weight and I have my spring/summer essentials, I decided to spend my budget on accessories. I got this adorable sun hat for summer days and a cute saddle bag for casual weekends. I also got these adorable TOMS flip flops in my latest Trunk Club. They were a bit pricey, but they do have some arch support which my feet need.

    I think he’s adorable!
  3. Wednesday night was Work-Out Wednesday. Michael and I started this a while back and then stopped for a while when we got really busy. We started again this week. My legs still hurt from the lunges, but after the gym Michael made dinner. We had some yummy Pork Tenderloin and mixed veggies.
  4. Michael left for DreamHack in Austin yesterday, so that means I am watching the Chewie monster for the weekend. Mouse was not too happy about seeing his “friend”. He took to hiding behind my bike to get away from the dog. Eventually, he came around. Although the fight for my attention lasted all night and I got very little sleep.
  5. Today is my dad’s birthday! We are celebrating tomorrow, but I wanted to give him a quick shout-out! Like I said on Instagram, he fostered my love for the important things in life: Jesus, hockey and Star Trek. Quick hockey note: the Stars won in overtime last night!!

As always I am linking up with Tif, Katie & Della as well as Meet at the Barre!

Do you have any big plans for Mothers’ Day weekend?

Currently in May

Just putting together a quick post to link up for Currently with Anne and Jenna.

Celebrating- This weekend is a big weekend for my family. Today is my dad and step-mom’s anniversary, Friday is my Dad’s birthday and Sunday is Mothers’ Day. So much to celebrate in so little time.

Reading- I just finished Unenchanted last night so I am trying to decide which book to read next. I love the Amazon First program through prime. I get to choose one free new book every month. They send me an email at the beginning of the month with choices in multiple categories. I’m picking between this thriller and this mystery right now.

Pondering- I’m deciding if I should buy anything from my latest Trunk Club shipment. There was a T-Shirt I liked and flip flops, but they were $25 and $38, respectively. The shorts and crop pants (that I loved) were too small and the dress was unflattering, so those were easy choices. Am I just being too cheap?

Sipping- Race Trac has started their Sodapalooza for this summer. I am always so excited. I got my cup yesterday with $2 off from the app. I love that it’s bright pink and I get all the Diet Coke I want until July 31. Not a bad deal for $10.

Going- I’m so excited to be going to Gruene and Austin at the end of the month with my bestie! This trip has been planned for so long and it is finally just around the corner. Any ideas of things to do are encouraged!

Small May Goals

I can’t believe it’s May already! I am so excited for this month, mostly because I get to see my best friend at the end of it!! See my newest Widget for my excitement level. However, this post is not about that, it is about my goals for this month.

First let’s review April:

  1. Develop an Editorial Calendar: Didn’t happen! I really need to do this though so pushing it to May.
  2. Post 2x a Week: Okay, so I half did this. The first two weeks I only posted once each week, but managed to posts each for the final two weeks. Doing the H54F link-up has really helped.
  3. Take More and Better Pictures: Another goal that didn’t happen! I always forget to take pictures and then I don’t do a blog post about it because I didn’t take pictures. I did find a way to take outfit pictures on my own though.
  4. Do Cardio Once a Week: Done! I’m so proud of myself for this. I love the trails in my area and have loved riding them again. Also, the bike trainer has helped when there was a huge storm raging outside. Plus, I got to watch Grey’s while biking.
  5. Do my Hair Once a Week: I have figured out I will always choose sleep. This will be a work in progress I think.

So I completed 1.5 goals. Not great. I need to write these down somewhere that I am constantly seeing them. To be honest, I forgot about the hair goal!

Time to take a look at my goals for May:

  1. Editorial Calendar: I have some ideas circulating for this. It sort of ties into Goal #2.
  2. Start Using my Planner Again: I have an Erin Condren planner that I love, but I have not been using it as much for the past month and a half. I need to get more disciplined about this again.
  3. Decide on Self- Hosting: So I have been playing with the idea of self-hosting my blog. Please let me know if you have any advice on this. I plan to make a decision this month about it. Either yes, I’m going to do it or no, I am going to put it off.
  4. Write a Hockey Post: So my first post was a hockey post, but since then I have written more about other stuff. I really want to get back to doing some kind of hockey post before the season ends.
  5. Stay on Budget: So I had some big car repairs late in April. They weren’t totally unexpected, but I was hoping to put them off a little longer. So I need to make sure that I really stick to my budget so I can rebuild my savings account quickly.

As always, I am linking up with Writes Like a Girl!

I need some advice on self-hosting. Is it worth the cost? What is the best site to do it through? Also, what is some must do’s in Austin? My bestie and I will be down for Memorial Day weekend!
